Dakota Box Lacrosse

Dakota Indoor Lacrosse is made of teams from communities in Dakota County who join together to offer an “in-house” pre-season youth lacrosse development program to build skills among players in our region. The program is held in member communities (Mendota Heights, Inver Grove Heights, Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville, Rosemount, and Farmington). Scrimmages are held at the Eagan Sports Center. Generally, there will be one practice (Monday or Thursday evening) and one scrimmage per week (Saturday or Sunday) for 5 weeks between March 9 and April 26, 2020.

Program Details
The Dakota Lacrosse Program is a developmental league that focuses on the fundamentals of lacrosse for passing, catching, cradling, etc.  The box league is played indoors on artificial turf, with players from Apple Valley-Burnsville, Eagan, Eastview, Inver Grove Heights, Mendota Heights, Hastings and Rosemount. Boys and girls play on the on the same teams.

Age-Based Divisions/Details:

  • U8: (Primarily 1st and 2nd graders) Players younger than this age range (1st grade) may be allowed to play if space allows. Please contact the indoor program director for consideration.
    • Schedule: 2 times per week (1 practice during the week, 1 scrimmage on the weekend) 
      *First two weeks of season will be practice only
    • Team Size: Up to 15 players per team
    • Field Size: 5 vs 5, cross/half field
    • Goalie: No
    • Uniforms: Each participant will receive a reversible Dakota Lacrosse Pinnie 
       
  • U10:  (Primarily 3rd and 4th graders)
    • Schedule: 3 times per week (2 practices during the week, 1 game on the weekend)
      *First two weeks of season will be practice only
    • Team Size: Up to 15 players per team
    • Field Size: 6 vs 6, full field
    • Goalie: Yes (Goalie equipment provided)
    • Uniforms: Each participant will receive a reversible Dakota Lacrosse Pinnie

Equipment:
Equipment needed is helmet (hockey or lacrosse) with face guard, lacrosse stick, protective cup, shoulder pads, arm guards (or elbow pads), gloves, tennis shoes, and mouth guard. New and used equipment is available at various metro locations and swap meets. Hockey equipment can also be used for this program, although most kids prefer lacrosse gloves.

Practices are typically held at member facilities and scrimmages are held at the Eagan Sports Center.
